What a year this has been! Just when you think things are calming down, bam…another dramatic event happens! Stress, lack of sleep, and worry, in general, can wreak havoc on our skin. Here are some of the top skincare tips of the year that will help your skin glow and be in good, healthy condition.

Daily Moisturizer

Are you experiencing dry skin? Find the perfect moisturizer and use it every day. Apply lotion as soon as you exit the shower to seal in the moisture that your skin has just absorbed. Remember, hands are one of the first parts of the body that reveals aging, so use a heavy moisturizer and carry it with you at all times. Every time you wash your hands, moisturize!

Toners

It is essential to keep the pH levels balanced in your skin. Toners do just that. Remember to find the right toner that is free of skin irritants such as fragrance, citrus, alcohol, color, and menthol.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a must in your daily routine. Sunscreens with zinc are usually nonirritating and less greasy. This makes the product good for sensitive skin and skin that is acne-prone. Titanium oxide or zinc oxide reflects the sun’s UVA and UVB rays.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation evens out the skin’s surface by getting rid of dead cells and allowing fresh cells to be revealed. Dead cells produce a complexion dulling appearance. There are two different kinds of exfoliators. Physical ones slough off dead skin cells using teeny-tiny granules of some type, while chemical ones do it using face acids

Rest

Get plenty of sleep! Not enough sleep can increase stress, which causes a dull complexion and breakouts. Never deprive your skin and body of rest. Your body regenerates and recovers during sleep. It is a must!

Do not smoke

We don’t have room to list the many reasons smoking is bad for you. But second-hand smoke is also harmful to your skin. Just being around smokers can cause your skin to sag and speed up the wrinkle process.

Makeup Brushes

There is plenty of dirty bacteria that live on makeup brushes, which can cause skin breakouts. It is imperative to clean those brushes once a month. Simply massage baby shampoo into the bristles and rinse. Lay the brushes on a towel and allow the brush head to hang over the sink to completely dry.

Cut Back on Alcohol

As hard as it may be, drink one less serving of alcohol a day. You will notice a difference in your skin. Alcohol causes the skin to dehydrate, inflaming the tissue and causing wrinkles. You can water down the wine or other liquor with club soda and drink a glass of water between the alcoholic drinks.
